It just started tonight for me, and its driving me insane while I try to study with some low music over my headphones. Its from the speakers themselves, between 3 and 6 quick, high pitch beeps on an interval of around 10 - 20 seconds. I hear this isn't uncommon with VAIO Laptops however, so I'm not worried and just blow out the fans and such with canned air every now and again. The laptop idles fine but runs pretty hot sometimes. The laptop is about 1 1/2 years old, so I expect to get a little longer out of it yet, and this persistent noise is really annoying plus I have no idea what its for. I tried this fix, and it still does the beep. Try reloading the sound card drivers via Sony's support site to see if it will stop the beeping noises.
